Democracy, best shield against extremism, Morocco says
Morocco, Politics, 1/27/2003
Democratic culture is the best shield against extremism, hatred and confrontation, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower chamber of parliament) said Friday.
Democratic culture is also the best means to ensure social change within peace, security and stability in the same society and in the world at large, Radi told the International Parliamentary Conference, currently held in New Delhi.
Terrorism, he said, is a translation of serious crises that world societies witnessed before and during the 20th century, particularly at political, cultural, civilizational and religious scales.
To ensure sound governance, Radi stressed the need to check and balance power through securing its distribution among different institutions so that these institutions monitor each other's actions.
