First Palestinian dialogue since 20 years opens in Cairo under Egyptian patronage
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/25/2003

Representatives of 12 Palestinian factions opened yesterday their dialogue for the first time since 20 years.

The dialogue is conducted in Cairo under Egyptian patronage as Chief of the Intelligence Service Omar Suliman attended the event.

Prior to the inaugural session, Head of the delegation representing the Democratic Front for Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) Fahd Suliman said he would deliver an address on behalf of Secretary-General of DFLP Nayef Hawatma, and that he will deal in his address with aims of the Palestinian struggle including establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and solving refugees problem.

Member of the Polite bureau of the Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Maher Al Taher said they are willing to reach tangible conclusions, and Egypt provided a historic opportunity to pool all Palestinian factions in a bid to rearrange the Palestinian home.

Member of Hamas Movement Osama Hamdany said that they consider this dialogue a genuine opportunity to reach an understanding on main topics.

Member of the PLO's executive committee Khaled Tayseer stressed Friday the importance of holding the inter-Palestinian dialogue under the auspices of Egypt and the patronage of Hosni Mubarak.

Speaking to Radio Cairo, Tayseer said the inter-Palestinian talks aimed at reaching a unified political Palestinian dialogue between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and opposition.

The Palestinian official said the talks also aim at setting up a unified strategy on the Palestinian resistance in the period ahead, pointing out that the dialogue would also support the Palestinians in their uphill struggle against the Israeli aggression.
