Israel escalate attacks on Gaza, five Palestinians shot dead

Just three days before the Israeli elections, the Israeli forces intensified its aggressions against the Palestinians and killed Palestinians in Nablus, launched raids by helicopters against Gaza and this resulted in killing three Palestinians, damaging a church and destroying of metal workshop. Moreover, the Israeli forces stormed into other areas in Gaza and destroyed at least 14 houses.

The Israeli defense minister Shaoul Mofaz threatened to launch vast operations in Gaza "in order to destabilize the headquarters of terrorism" and this was after the Israeli cities of Sidrout and Asqalan were exposed to al-Qassam missile shelling, an attack claimed by the Hamas movement.

Meantime, Israeli helicopters and armored vehicles yesterday at dawn raided Gaza, and this resulted in wounding three Palestinians. The Israeli helicopters fired 8 missiles.

A Palestinian security source said that "a metal workshop owned by Jamal Abu Shabaan was completely destroyed after being hit by several missiles," noting that a residential building of five floors and of 20 apartments was leveled after it was stormed in and five of Ayyad family members were arrested.

One Palestinian woman died of a heart attack during a raid for the Israeli helicopter. Medical sources said that the woman died at al-Ahli hospital after one missile hit a small church located inside the building headquarters where she lives.

Meantime, an Israeli military source said that two Palestinians, one man and a woman were killed yesterday following an attack by mortars at an Israeli army position to the north of the West Bank. The same sources explained that the two were among a group of four- member commando team that dropped mortars and opened fire at a position for the Israeli army to the north of Nablus.

Palestinian medical sources said that the two victims are "Souad Jadullah ( 47 year old) and Ayman Hannawi ( 28 year old). Hannwa was a member in Ezz Eddin al-Qassam group while Souad Jadullah did not belong to any Palestinian organization.
