Saudi- Yemeni committee discusses today supply Mareb dam with electricity

The Saudi- Yemeni joint committee which emerges from the coordination council convenes today its second meeting in Sanaa under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia's minister of industry Hashem Bin Abdullah al-Yamani and the Yemeni minister of agriculture Ahmad Salem al-Jabali in order to discuss the financing of Mareb dam electricity project.
Yemeni sources said that the committee which includes in its membership for the Yemeni side the minister of electricity and expatriates, and for the Saudi side the two ministers of state and agriculture, will discuss several joint issues which serve the interests of the two states.
The participants in the meeting will also review the minutes of meeting of the joint preparatory committee which was held on 23- 26 December, 2002.
Yemeni officials said that the meeting will discuss several common issues, including the third phase of the social project for development, the second phase of the public works project and the rural roads projects.
The Yemeni officials said that the meeting will discuss also the issue of financing the high- capacity electricity lines from Mareb to Sanaa and from Aden to al-Helyein as well as several projects financed by the Saudi Fund.
The Yemeni officials continued that among these financed projects are the electricity generation station of 60 Megawatt in the provinces of Sanaa and Aden at a total cost of 50 million dollars, establishing a gas station at a cost of 50 million dollars in Maerb province.
The Yemeni officials said that the Yemeni side will discuss with the Saudi side the possibility of getting a loan to cover the gap in the electricity transport project which will transform electric power from Mareb to Sanaa at an approximate cost of 70 million dollars.
