Police flatly denies recent arms seizure in Morocco
Morocco, Local, 1/24/2003

A top police officer denied on Wednesday news reports that arms were seized recently in Morocco.

News reports over seizure or introduction of weapons in Morocco are completely false, head of the national brigade of the judiciary police, Younes Jamali, told the Moroccan TV channel "2M." He insisted the police is absolutely "categorical."

"It is true that last June some rotten, worn out and unusable guns used in shooting contests were found by the customs agents in the northern town of Fnideq in a site, but those are not firearms," he went on.

An investigation has been opened on the discovery of these weapons that were present there even before Morocco's independence, said the police top officer.

Regarding the case of weapons stolen, he said it is a soldier who robbed the weapons and the case was rapidly elucidated.
