King of Bahrain discusses Iraq and Palestine with Burns

The King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, on Wednesday held talks with the US envoy to the Middle East William Burns on Iraq and the Middle East question before a forthcoming visit the king will hold to Washington.

Bahrain's news agency said that King Hamad stressed the "need of exerting good offices and embarking on the peaceful option in order to avoid the region military confrontation and Iraq to implement international resolutions concerning dismantling of banned weapons."

The Bahrain' s news agency added that the King of Bahrain explained to Burns, who later in the day moved to Amman to meet with the Jordanian King Abdullah II "Bahrain's unwavering position and its care to maintain stability and security in the Gulf region." King Hamad also stressed to Burns "the need of reviving the ME peace process."

Burns is in a tour on the region, he had started in Damascus and met on Tuesday with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
