China, Israel sign a trade agreement
Israel-China, Economics, 1/23/2003

Israel and China yesterday signed an agreement on importing and exporting fruits and vegetables and agricultural seeds between the two countries. The agreement also stated ratification the import of Chinese plants used in alternative medical treatment.

The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot quoted the Chinese deputy minister of agriculture who is in charge of foreign trade, describing the agreement as important "because until now ( when the agreement was signed ) it was not possible to import Israeli vegetables and fruits legally." The agreement was signed following negotiations that lasted for one and a half years. The agreement will be valid very soon.

According to statements made by the advisor for the scientific and agricultural affairs at the Israeli embassy in Beijing, Amram Olmert, Israel is keen to import types of fruits and vegetables in China that are not known in Israel with the aim to develop them into other types and export them later to other countries.
