Jordanian parties threaten to boycott parliamentary elections
Jordan, Politics, 1/20/2003
A coalition that includes Jordanian parties has loomed the possibility of boycotting the parliamentary elections due to be carried out this year if the government will not respond to the demand of initiating serious dialogue with these parties, amending the elections law, and setting a fixed date for these elections.
In a press conference, representatives of Islamic, leftist and center parties strongly criticized the government of the Jordanian prime minister Ali Abul Ragheb and accused it of margining the parties and weakening the political life in Jordan though imposing provisional laws and preventing the parties and the Jordanians from expressing their views.
The secretary general of al-Nahda party -- close to the government -- Muhjam al-Kharsha said that the current political condition in Jordan does not encourage the political parties to take part and join the next elections.
