Libya-Egypt, Politics, 1/20/2003
The Libyan official news agency has stated that talks between the Egyptian president, and the Libyan leader on Saturday in Tripoli concentrated on the diplomatic moves carried out by Cairo in order to avoid a war against Iraq.
The agency said that Mubarak and al-Qathafi also discussed the threats imposed on the Iraqi and Palestinian people. They stressed the need of " adopting a united Arab stand in order to avoid the people of Iraq the consequences of war."
Mubarak's visit to Tripoli, coincided with the visit of the Iraqi deputy premier Tareq Aziz who handed over al-Qathafi a message from the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, before he had headed to Damascus. Mubarak's visit also came after Cairo's announcement of its initial consent to take part in a regional summit proposed by Turkey to avoid the occurrence of a new war in the Gulf region.
