Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot leaders meet in UN presence in nicosia

The Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash, and the Greek Cypriot leader, Glafcos Clerides, met yesterday in the presence of the Secretary-General's Special Adviser for Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, in the United Nations Protected Area in Nicosia. According to a UN spokesman, the two leaders agreed to continue their meetings on a thrice-weekly basis.
In December, Secretary-General Kofi Annan presented a revised plan for settling the Cyprus problem. The UN leader has expressed the hope that the two sides can reach a comprehensive agreement by 28 February in order to enable a reunited Cyprus to join the European Union in April, the UN reported.
