Spanish farmers seek to ban entry of Moroccan fruits, flowers to europe
Morocco-Spain, Economics, 1/18/2003
Farmers and stock breeders from southern Spain have called their peers in the southern town of Almeria to block the passage of Moroccan fruits and flowers to Europe.
The action is meant to protest potential "concessions" that the European commission allegedly made to Morocco on the agricultural component of the Morocco-EU association agreement, said secretary general of the coordination of southern Spain farmers and stock-breeders.
He also threatened that if their request that Europe restores the requirement of farming produce license, they will block other southern ports in Algesiras and Cadiz to ban the entry of Moroccan products.
The chairman of the communities of the Gibraltar region said he is against the port blocking as a pressure tactic and added it will harm the region's economy.
