Egypt confirms receiving invitation to attend Ankara's summit
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 1/18/2003
An Egyptian diplomat said Egypt had received an invitation from Turkey to attend a summit conference in Ankara, to be attended by the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Iran to discuss the Iraqi crisis.
In a statement, the Egyptian ambassador Fatehi al-Chazli said that the summit will discuss means of reaching a peaceful solution for the Iraqi crisis. He said that among the tasks of this summit is to inform the USA about the effects and consequences of any military attack against Iraq.
Al-Chazli indicated that the summit will work to direct a collective appeal calling on Iraq to take certain measures in order to implement UN resolutions, hoping that the USA will abstain from the use of forces.
