King Mohammed gets message from President Hussein
Iraq-Morocco, Politics, 1/17/2003

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Thursday received a message from President Saddam Hussein of Iraq. The message was handed to the king by Iraq's Vice Premier, Tariq Aziz, who was received.

Aziz told the press after the audience he "reassured His Majesty of the situation in Iraq and reaffirmed to the king that Iraq (É) government, people and armed forces, resists threats and maneuvers."

The Iraqi official added that King Mohammed VI asked him to convey his greetings to the Iraqi President, adding that he expressed to the King his "thanks for the welcome that was reserved to him by the king and the Moroccan brotherly people."

He further stressed that his country is ready to defend its sovereignty, dignity and its national interests against any aggression and will "prove to the aggressors that it is not an easy prey to be subjected by threat, psychological war and armed aggression."

"I briefed His Majesty, who is intent on fructifying Morocco's relations on the international level to help the Iraqi just cause, of the political stand and deliberations within the Security Council," he went on.

He added that King Mohammed VI promised him that he "will spare no effort, through his contacts on the international level, to explain the Iraqi position in order to circumvent war."

Aziz said he told the King that Iraq possesses no weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and that his country's assertions in this regard are "sincere," adding that UN inspectors have so far visited 300 sites and found not indication that Baghdad possesses such weapons.

"Inspectors don't undertake their mission in a professional manner, no matter what they pretend," Aziz said, adding that they "visit certain plants and scientific institutions that might have a link with the alleged WMD, but in fact they are searching for data on industrial, technological and conventional defense armament potential, which are not prohibited by international customs."
