Khartoum sends delegation to Kenya; Negotiations to resume from suspension point
Sudan, Politics, 1/17/2003
The Sudanese government announced yesterday that it will send a delegation to the third round of Mashakos negotiations with the rebels on January 22, after it had received assertions that the negotiations will be resumed from the point they were stopped at.
The Sudanese presidential advisor for peace affairs, Ghazi Salah Eddine al-Atabani, told journalists that the Sudanese government "agreed to attend the negotiations of the third round in Mashakos on sharing the authorities and resources." He continued that the negotiations "will be launched from the point they had stopped at in the second session" which ended on November 18. He added that the "Sudanese government received the invitation from the Governmental Commission for Development ( IGAD) today (Thursday)."
Worthy mentioning that the rebels announced that negotiations with Khartoum were to have resumed yesterday in Kenya and will be dedicated for the three area, al-Nouba, the southern of the Blue Nile and Eibi which the rebels demand to have control of. However, the negotiations did not start on Wednesday.
