Egyptian Rafah coasts pollution with Israel sewage, in court case

The Egyptian court in al-Areesh decided to set Thursday, March 25th, a date for considering the case filed the chairman of the civil society for protecting the environment in northern Sinai province Abdullah al-Hajjawi against the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon because of Israel's pollution of the coats of the Egyptian city of Rafah for 8 continous years.
The filed case, asked the Israeli side to pay compensations for the resulted moral and material losses resulted from the coast of Rafah estimated at 60 million Egyptian pounds, noting that Israel had dumped sewage wastes in the water of the Mediterranean in front of the Egyptian coasts at amounts estimated at 50,000 cubic meters every day.
Recently North Sinai province has complained to the Egyptian government over the occurrence of pollution resulting from waste of the Israeli settlements which are close to the borders with Egypt.
For its part, the Egyptian foreign ministry submitted the complaint to the ministry of the environment to assess and study it, being the side technically concerned with this matter.
