Turkish army in North Iraq to preserve peace on the borders
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 1/14/2003

The Turkish prime minister Abdullah Gul has stressed that the existence of the Turkish soldiers in North Iraq is to keep security on the borders.

In an exclusive statement to the Iranian daily "Iran" on the inclination of the Turkish army Generals in Turkey for war and for the military presence in North Iraq, he said that it is a misconception about the military leaders in Turkey. He added that those Turkish army Generals do not want war and have no ambitions to the lands of others.

In his statement, Gul refused to comment on the Turkish- Israeli - American relations and asked not to provoke that subject, rather to concentrate on peace.
