King Mohammed dedicates mosque, students' residence in Marrakesh
Morocco, Education, 1/11/2003
Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Friday dedicated a mosque and a student residence in Marrakesh. The 13 million dirham (US$ 1.3 million) Al-Massira Mosque was built over 6730 square meters to accommodate 1800 worshippers.
The Mosque has several annexes including a Koran school, a library, 17 shops, a bakery and other dependencies.
The king was informed on the literacy program under way in the Mosques of Morocco. Some 200 teachers are supervising such courses in 200 mosques throughout the country.
The students' residence that King Mohammed VI dedicated the same day in Marrakesh was built by the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation in partnership with the local Grand Atlas Association.
With 198 beds, the 5567 square-meter residence includes two wards: one for females and another for males, an administration pavilion, a cafeteria, shops and other facilities.
The residence is open for poor students on the basis of academic merit.
