Sudan denies having mass destruction weapons
Israel-USA, Politics, 1/11/2003
A Sudanese governmental daily said yesterday that Khartoum has categorically denied accusations raised by the CIA on that it owns or seeks to develop mass destruction weapons.
The Sudanese daily al-Anbaa ( the news) quoted the Sudanese foreign minister Othman Ismael as saying that Sudan has no links to the mass destruction weapons as far as it had signed the international agreement which bans these weapons, namely the NPT. This statement came in comment of a report by the CIA to this effect.
Ismael stressed that Sudan has announced upon signing the NPT that it is ready to received organizations concerned to make sure that such weapons are not there.
Ismael added that such accusations should be addressed to countries which actually own such weapons and did not sign international treaties concerned, in remarks to Israel.
According to foreign experts Israel owns at least 200 nuclear warheads and equipment to carry them. However, Israel does not admit having such weapons. This comes as North Korea decided to abandon the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, in responce to US pressures on this issue which are as a selective application of international law, considering US treatment of Israel on this matter.
