Talibani, the US and Iran
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 1/11/2003
The chairman of the Kurdistani National Federation, Jalal Talibani, stressed yesterday that the Americans are ready to give all guarantees to the Iranian authorities that they will not carry out any action against it in case they launch an aggression against Iraq.
In a press conference, Talibani said, replying to a question on a likely message from the Americans to Iran, that the Americans told him that the US and Iran are linked to common interests and that they will not carry out any action against Iran in this crisis.
Talibani added that the Americans said they are ready to give the Iranians all guarantees to this end.
Talibani, on the other hand announced that the meeting of the follow up and coordination committee stemmed from the Iraqi opposition conference which was held in London in December 2002, will be held as was scheduled in January in Kurdistan, stressing that one or two days of delay from the set date which is in the mid of January, is not that important.
Following hard talks, some 300 Iraqi opposition figures have reached an agreement in December, 2002 in London to found the said committee which includes 70 members. A committee which was considered as an introduction for a provisional government in a federal Iraq in the after Saddam Hussein's phase.
