Two Palestinians killed, scores arrested; Israel demolishes Palestinian homes
Palestine-Israel, Military, 1/9/2003

The Palestinian Youth Ahmad Ajaj ( 18 year old) was killed in Sidon village near Toulkarem, when an Israeli soldier opened fire at a group of Palestinians. Eye witnesses said that Ajaj was on the roof of a building near a house which the forces were demolishing belonging to the chairman of the village council.

The Palestinian Ayman Jindiq ( 20 year old) was also shot dead by Israeli bullets fired against him to the west of Khan Younis camp.

A Palestinian source stressed that an Israeli bulldozer escorted by the Israeli tanks leveled vast areas of the Palestinians lands especially near Neve Dekalim settlement, while eyewitnesses said that armed clashes took place between the Palestinian resistance fighters and the Israeli soldiers near the settlement just half an hour before Jindiq was killed.

Meantime, the Israeli forces arrested 23 Palestinians during inspection operations in al-Jalazoun camp, Hebron, Nablus and Ramullah and Toulkarem and declared a state of utmost alert in Jerusalem of fears of new "suicide" operations.

The Israeli forces also arrested one Palestinian in Nablus and transported the secretary general of the Fatah Movement Marwan al-Barghouthi in the West Bank to a prison in Beer Sheba and put him in a single cell with the aim "to humiliate him and destroy his morale," some noted.

In Jerusalem, the Israeli court passed a life imprisonment sentence against Samir Gheith under the pretext that he had killed an Israeli woman settler and sentenced other 6 Palestinians for several periods of time on charges of supporting Gheith.
