Establishments In Egypt
Egypt, Economics, 1/8/2003
The number of economic establishments in Egypt has risen to 3,160,229 compared to 3,072,600 in 1996, an increase of 87,628 (2.9 per cent), an economic survey released Sunday showed.
Ehab Elway, Chairman of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, told a press conference Sunday that this was the third economic survey in Egypt.
A total of 1,883,946 establishments (92.7 per cent) of total establishments operating in Egypt belong to the private sector, 6.7 per cent belong to the government services sector and the rest belong to the Public Business Sector and the Public Sector.
Trade represents the largest activity, he said. Establishments operating in Egypt employ about six million people (31 per cent) of total manpower.
The total value of the production of these establishments is L.E. 387.564 billion.
Unemployment percentage increased to 9 per cent, 0.6 per cent more than the percentage in 1996. The marginal increase was due to the over population problem. The population must have increased by 1.3 million people in 2002, he added.
