Jordanian King, Gul stressed the need of a peaceful solution for the Iraqi issue

The Jordanian King Abdullah II and the Turkish prime minister Abdullah Gul have stressed the need of accelerating all efforts to find out a peaceful solution for the Iraqi issue within the UN in order to spare Iraq a likely war.

In a joint statement Gul and the Jordanian prime minister expressed following their talks later in the day yesterday their two countries's great concern over the implications of any military action against Iraq because its consequences will be very negative on the security and stability of the region, politically and economically.

The statement stressed the care of both Turkey and Jordan to maintain the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq and the need of making all possible efforts to avoid Iraq any military attack that might increase the sufferings of the Iraqi people.

Abul Ragheb renewed Jordan's position in rejecting the use of its lands and airspace for launching any attack against Iraq. He stressed Jordan's attachement to the Beirut Arab summit resolutions concerning the Iraqi issue and the need to deal with it through the UN security council.

The Jordanian prime minister called on the international community to abide by implementing the international resolutions on all countries of the region including Israel. The Turkish and the Jordanian sides agreed during their talks to revitalize bilateral relations especially through the joint committee so as to strengthen economic cooperation and increase the volume of trade exchange in all fields.

He said that the aim of his visit to the region is to meet with the neighboring Arab states to coordinate in this matter, stressing the need of finding out a solution for the Iraqi issue. The Turkish prime minister also explained that he had discussed with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the Jordanian King all these issues "we have reached the targeted objective and we have to do every thing for that."
