Algeria: the killing of 16 persons including 7 military men and five Islamists

The Algerian radio said yesterday that some 16 Algerians including nine of the security forces and five Islamists were killed on Saturday and Sunday in different acts of violence in different parts of the country.

Meantime, the Algerian dailies accused al-Qaida network tooftaking part in the ambush in which on Saturday some 43 persons were killed including 39 from the parachuting unit in the Algerian army, in a worst attack the army faced since the eruption of the acts of violence in 1992. The attackers seized weapons and amounts of ammunition.
