Moussa, Arab states deliberate rejection to striking Iraq
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 1/3/2003
The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa has renewed the deliberate rejection of the Arab League and the Arab states for any military act against Iraq. He called for reaching a peaceful solution for the Iraqi issue in the context of the international law and the UN security council resolution no 1441, and in light of Iraq's complete cooperation with the UN inspection teams.
In a statement to the Egyptian daily al-Akhbar issued yesterday, Moussa stressed that the Arab peace initiative and the international law which provide for Israel's complete withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories until June 4, 1967 border lines are the bases for any move to finding a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region. He stressed that the Arabs will not sign complete peace with Israel as far as one inch of the Arab lands remains occupied.
Moussa, on the other hand, renewed the full support and backing of the Arab League to the legitimate struggle mounted by the Palestinians until they restore back their full rights, foremost being to establish their own independent state on their own native soil with Jerusalem as a capital.
Concerning the situation on the Sudanese arena, the AL chief stressed that the AL continues efforts in order not to have the Mashakos agreement be the beginning of the road for dismembering the south from Sudan, calling for the collective efforts of all Arab states to preserve Sudan's unity and contribute to its rebuilding.
