Israel marks the new year by demolishing two Palestinian houses, incursions in the West Bank and Gaza as the year 2002 was catastrophic for the Palestinians with more than 8000 Palestinians getting detained by Israel.
Israel started the year 2003 by demolishing two Palestinian houses for the families of Muhammad Ahmad Zeyadah in Nablus and Yassin al-Agha in Khan Younis and arresting scores of Palestinians in breaking in operations carried out by the Israeli forces yesterday in various parts of the West Bank and Gaza.
Palestinians described the year 2002 as the catastrophic year which hit the Palestinian people by the continued Israeli aggression during which the Israeli forces arrested more than 8,000 Palestinians.
The Israeli forces incurred in Doura areas in the West Bank and broke into the cultural center in the town and al-Sater al-Gharbi area to the North of Khan Younis and imposed curfew, and ordered the citizens to get out of their houses and gather in one of the public squares and inspected them one by one.
A Palestinian security source said that more than 20 Israeli tanks and bulldozers incurred for more than one kilometers to the west of Khan Younis under intensive fire and sound bombs and carried out a large scale inspection campaign of the houses of the Palestinians in the area.
The Palestinian source added that the Israeli soldiers forced the family of Yassin al-Agha to get out of the house and prevented them from taking essential needs and demolished the house by dynamite.
The Palestinian prisoners organization described the year 2002 as a catastrophic year for the Palestinians. In a statement issued yesterday by the Palestinian daily al-Ayam ( the days ) in the occupied Palestinian territories, the organization said the collective and random acts of arrests carried out by the Israeli forces aimed at destroying family and social infrastructure of the Palestinians, as the number of arrested Palestinians reached more than 8,000.
The statement explained that the acts of arrests included all Palestinian social strata and the rate of arrested of brothers at 15%, with 300 children and some 50 women arrested. The statement considered that the year 2002 was the year of official crime against the prisoners as 98% of the arrested Palestinians were tortured and most of them were arrested while either wounded or ill and they are 350 wounded in need of health and medical care and are in difficult health conditions threatening their lives.
