Arab League denies mediation over Iraq
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 1/2/2003
The Arab League has denied news rumored on a mediation held by its secretary general Amr Moussa in collaboration with Arab foreign ministers in order to convince the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to quit the authority.
The official spokesman for the AL chief, advisor Hesham Youssef said in a statement yesterday that these news are groundless and that the whole issue was never debated during the contacts carried out by the AL chief with the Arab foreign ministers. Youssef explained that "the question of changing the regime in Iraq is an internal matter decided only by the Iraqi people."
