Egypt gives priority to relations with Sudan
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 1/1/2003
Egypt is closely following up the developments in Sudan and supports efforts to achieve peace and stability for the Sudanese people in a united Sudan, where all citizens enjoy equal rights, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher told a gathering yesterday.
In his speech to the opening session of the Egyptian committee on South Sudan development, Maher stressed that Egypt gives top priority to relations with Sudan.
Egypt is working hard to support the Sudanese government either bilaterally or through the Arab League (AL) in developing north and South Sudan as the country's unity is the best option for the Sudanese people.
The meeting explored means whereby Egypt could help Sudan and discussed the possibility of granting South Sudan more training scholarships and technical support.
Also discussed were projects proposed by the government of Sudan at the first coordinating meeting by the AL to develop South Sudan.
Maher is expected to attend the forthcoming meeting on Sudan in Khartoum on 14 January.
