Israel escalate acts of detention; Hamas vows resistance til occupation ends
Palestine-Israel, Military, 12/28/2002

In a new "suicide operation," a Palestinian youths yesterday broke into Oteil settlement in the city of Hebron and opened fire at Israeli settlers and this resulted in his killing together with other four settlers and other seven were wounded.

The Israeli radio admitted the operation and indicated that the Israeli forces hurried immediately to the operation scene, while the military helicopters evacuated the wounded.

Just one day after nine Palestinian were killed and other 30 were wounded by the Israeli bullets, the Israeli forces yesterday detained more than 20 Palestinians in Nablus including Sharaf Abdul Sabah Qindil from the Fatah group under the pretext of preparing for "martyrdom" operations. The Israeli campaigns of arrests expanded to reach the cities of Jenin, Bethlehem, Tammoun town, and Askar camp and these resulted in detaining 18 Palestinian youths from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movements under the pretext of resisting occupation.

Meantime, the Israeli forces expelled 11 Belgian citizens who were presumed to take part in the Palestinian social forum in Ramullah and arrested other 10 activists of various nationalities at Tel Aviv airport to expel them.

Meanwhile, Palestinians attacked by bullets an Israeli bus near Ofer settlement in Ramullah and others opened fire at a position for the Israeli army in Katif settlement in Gaza.

The founder of the Hamas movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, vowed continued resistance operations including "martyrdom operations" until the end of occupation from the Palestinian territories. He said in a speech in Gaza that those who kill the Palestinians should not feel secure.

Meantime, the chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas movement Khaled Mashaal said that the resumption of dialogue due to be held in Cairo between the Movement and Fatah does not mean the suspension of "national resistance." He commented that no political action can be made in Palestine without "knocking the door of resistance."
