Hamas, Fatah do not agree a date to resume dialogue
Palestine, Politics, 12/27/2002

The delegation representing the Hamas movement left Cairo yesterday without maintaining an agreement on a date to resume dialogue with the Fatah movement; while the Egyptian authorities continued its contacts with various Palestinian groups in order to expand the inter- Palestinian base for dialogue.

The chairman of the Hamas movement Osama Hamdan said before leaving Cairo yesterday that contacts with the Fatah movement will continued, but the two sides still differ on how to run the conflict with Israel.

In November a round of dialogue was held between Hamas and Fatah under Egyptian auspices.

Hamdan said that the persistence to start the dialogue from this point ( halting the martyrdom operations) means the end of the dialogue before its start. He added "we do not have a problem to discuss any issue, but without set preconditions." He continued that contacts will continue to set an appropriate date for the talks with Fatah. He added that a date for resuming the dialogue will be set next week.

However, the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the democratic front and the Islamic Jihad movement, which sent delegations to Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials, might join these talks later.

On the other hand, the democratic front for the liberation of Palestine said it held on Wednesday a plenary session of talks with the Egyptian officials on the Palestinian situation.

The Palestinian News Agency WAFA said that the Palestinian liberation front received on Wednesday an invitation from Egypt to take part in the inter- Palestinian dialogue.
