Better food standards in Syria for consumption and exports

Upon the request of the Syrian Government, FAO agreed to provide technical assistance to the TCP/SYR/2907 project of " Strengthening the National Codex Committee and Updating / harmonizing Food Standards and regulations," for an amount of $ 275,000 allocated for the project.

The objective of the assistance is to strengthen the capacity of the Syrian National Codex Committee to effectively serve as an advisory body to the government on national food control matters and in the process, harmonize Syrian food standards and regulations with the Codex Alimentanus Commission CAC requirements as well as update and consolidate older food regulations. The ultimate standards in conformity with international trade requirements.

The project will result in an enhanced function and increased compliance with international trade standards of the national food control system, thus facilitating food exports and contributing to a food safe supply for the Syrian population.
