New border crossing between Iraq, Iran
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 12/25/2002

A UN official has announced that Iraq and Iran has asked the UN on Monday to open a new border crossing between the two countries in order to facilitate the flow of commodities to Iraq according to the UN "oil for food" program.

The official said that the UN office for the Iraqi program which supervises the "oil for food" program will send inspection experts to the new Khosrwi- al-Munzereyah crossing in order to open it before the commodity movement by the end of January or the beginning of February, 2003.

Diplomats at the UN indicated that the new crossing will facilitate exports of Iranian products to Iraq.

Worthy mentioning that this crossing is the first between Iraq and Iraq which is established according to the UN oil for food program which aims at enabling Iraq to purchase medicines and other foodstuffs for its oil sales.
