Egypt, Japan sign agreement on Environmental monitoring
Egypt, Environment, 12/24/2002

Egypt and Japan were to sign a memorandum yesterday whereby the Japanese government will grant a sum of LE 20 million to Egypt to provide equipment for regional environment monitoring, especially in Aswan, Assiut and Hurghada offices.

Sources at the Japanese Embassy said Sunday Minister of State For Foreign Affairs Fayza Abul Naga and the Japanese ambassador in Cairo would sign the agreement.

The grant mainly aims at enabling Cairo's main center and regional branches to monitor environmental changes and sources of pollution in water and air as well as disposal of industrial wastes.

The project will constitute technical bases for setting up research and regional environment training in Egypt that works on spreading information of technical expertise and promote environment education, not only in Egypt, but also in the Middle East.
