Mrs. Mubarak outlines achievements of Mubarak public library
Egypt, Education, 12/21/2002

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak Thursday outlined the achievements of Mubarak Public library during the last few months at the regular meeting of the Library board.

"Mubarak Public Library has acquired much experience in administration and in promoting the social role of libraries," Mrs. Mubarak said, adding that this experience will prove invaluable when other libraries are established.

"There is great concern on the part of the Ministry of Education to set up school libraries and develop them in the belief that libraries play an important part in the learning process," she said.

"This is an adequate step, but other authorities should -support these activities," she added.

"The new philosophy behind the library makes it more than a depository for books," Mrs. Mubarak said, affirming that it is important that employees are fully aware of this philosophy.

After the meeting, Mrs. Mubarak met with the governors of Qalyoubia, Dakahlia, Damietta, Port Said, New Valley and Beni Sweif, and Minister of Local Development, Mustafa Abdel Qader.

The meeting, which discussed several issues pertaining to the establishment of libraries in their governorates, presented an opportunity for each official to outline his vision of the library with a view to receiving advice and assistance on a sound scientific basis.
