Mubarak receives a message from Al Bashir

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak received a message Thursday from Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir dealing with the progress of the peace talks in Sudan and bilateral relations.

The message was delivered by Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismail.

Emerging from the meeting Othman said that the message covered the latest peace developments in Sudan the current regional conditions and bilateral relations.

The Sudanese Foreign Minister said that President Mubarak highlighted the necessity of moving forward to achieve peace in Sudan and maintain its unity, security and stability.

He added that President Mubarak underlined that Egypt stands by Sudan for halting war and realizing peace.

Othman pointed out that he briefed President Mubarak on the aim of current discussions in Washington between the Sudanese government and the rebel Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLM).

Speaking about bilateral relations Othman said that preparations are under way to convene a meeting of the joint higher ministerial committee under Prime Minister Atef Ebeid and the Sudanese First vice President.

The talks are to be held in Khartoum to discuss projects that are to be implemented under the signed agreements in the fields of investment, agriculture, animal, wealth, metallurgy and oil.

Othman noted that, the Sudanese government has decided to make 2003 the year of the south; mustering all efforts to implement its development plans there and to make southerners feel they are being cared for and well-served by their own loving country.

He told reporters that Sudan is preparing celebrations of its 47th Independence Day in the south.

"Many new projects would be inaugurated there to mark the occasion," he added.

He said that he intends to meet with Information Minister Safwat Sherif, the Secretary General of the ruling National Democratic Party, to extend him an invitation to the NDP members to partake in this Sudanese national event.
