Morocco wants to have reliable, independent justice
Morocco, Judicial, 12/21/2002
Morocco on Friday voiced will to have a reliable, strong, neutral and independent justice.
"The Moroccan justice should not only be reliable and strong but neutral and independent as well," Moroccan Justice Minister, Mohamed Bouzoubaa said in statements reported by the press on Friday.
"We are determined to moralize public life. We reject any interference in justice affairs as we refuse any form of pressure on judges who should be totally independent," said Bouzoubaa.
Bouzoubaa is the first party figure to hold the justice department in several years. A member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Bouzoubaa was minister in charge of relations with the Parliament in the former government led by USFP leader, Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
The minister stressed that corruption should not be tolerated, conceding that this plague is general and does not spare justice.
Of the case of Mehdi Ben Barka, the former Moroccan opposition leader who disappeared in Paris in the sixties, the official underlined that Morocco expressed readiness to cooperate with France to shed light on the dossier.
