King Mohammed vi visits france to reaffirm Paris-Rabat exceptional strategic partnership

The visit King Mohammed VI's today to France comes to reaffirm both countries privileged and solid relations, as well as their unmistakable commitment to build an exceptional strategic partnership.

Taking place a few weeks after President Jacques Chirac's visit to the Kingdom, the king's visit also reflects the atmosphere of entente that has always prevailed over relations between Rabat and Paris as well as their will to enhance teir centuries-old ties in all realms of cooperation both at official and popular levels.

During his first official visit to France in March 2000, King Mohammed VI called for "deeper bilateral relations based on new rules," being convinced that the traditional mechanisms of bilateral relations have been over-used.

In fact, the legal framework of both countries relations dates back to the 1960s, stressed King Mohammed VI, addressing President Chirac in a diner held on his honour, during his first visit to France.

He expressed hope to see France associated in the social project Morocco is endeavouring to build, by adopting a more daring and creative approach coupled with political stamina.

France and Morocco economic relations remain far bellow their excellent political ties.

The Moroccan king's visit aims as well to give a new impetus to Morocco-European Union relations, within the framework of a partnership that aspires to be better than an association accord and less than adherence.
