Syria will not take part in UN security council discussion over Iraq 's declaration on weapons
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 12/20/2002
Syria will not take part in the Security Council's discussion over the Iraq's declaration on Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).
A Syrian Foreign Ministry Spokesman yesterday declared that the Syrian Foreign Ministry had asked her permanent mission to the UN in New York not to participate in the discussion which is due to be held at the Security Council regarding Iraq's WMD declaration, following Syria's return of the partitioned copy of the declaration to the UN General Secretariat in a protest against the role distinction between the Security Council's permanent and non-permanent members.
Syria announces, the spokesman stated, that she would not be part in the conclusions which the Security Council would reach, since Syria did not review the full text of the Iraqi declaration which was exclusively distributed among the permanent members, in spite of Syria's being the only Arab state at the Security Council, and because the issue is related to Syria's neighboring state of Iraq and what happens to Iraq affects Syria directly and the region as a whole as well.
