Syria: increased number of persons arrested in corruption cases

Number of persons who are held in the Customs general administration in Syria increased to 20. Well-informed sources in Damascus said that these acts of arrest fall in the course of investigation in reported corruption cases, but did not rule out that many of them will be released after the end of the investigations.
Yesterday, the groups of arrested customs officials was joined by the secretaries of the Tartous and Homs customs and other heads of customs departments in Damascus and other governorates.
The well-informed sources explained that the recent "detention" is made for "investigation" and it is possible to release many of them next week.
The director general of Customs in Syria was arrested and held in Custody over corruption cases and followed to the same fate several customs directors and transiters. Yesterday, the director of supply protection at the Syrian ministry of supply and internal trade Bashar al-Saqqa was removed from his post at a decision from the Syrian prime minister.
