Al-Assad confers with Polish counterpart
Syria-Poland, Politics, 12/16/2002

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received yesterday in Damascus the Polish President, Alexander Kavashivinski, accompanied by Minister of Defense and Head of National Security Bureau.

Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara and the Polish Ambassador to Damascus were present at the meeting.Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in the region especially what's connected with Iraq and the situation in the Palestinian territories.

Talks also dealt with the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them in all domains since Syria is a non-permanent member of the Security Council and Poland is to join the EU.

The two sides also discussed the work of the Polish Unit at the UNDOF at the Syrian occupied Golan.

Earlier, the visiting Polish president and the accompanying delegation, accompanied by Awqaf Minister Mohammed Ziadah, toured the Ommayyad Mosque and listened to a briefing about the history of the mosque and the Islamic architecture, then he toured the markets of the ancient part of Damascus.
