Al-Refaee inaugurates WB group symposium on private sector
Syria, Economics, 12/16/2002

Syria's Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Ghasan al-Refaee, yesterday opened a symposium organized by the World Bank Group and the Syrian Chambers of Commerce in cooperation with Chambers of Industry and the Syrian European Business Center under the slogan "Partnership for trade and investment promotion in Syria."

Minister al-Refaee gave a word during which he stressed the importance of the Symposium and cited the Syrian government support to develop the private sector in order to play its role as an important partner of the public sector in the social and economical development process.

For his part, the Secretary of the Chambers of Commerce, Abdul Rahman Attar, in a speech to the participants, cited the role played by the Syrian private sector in activating the economic and investment activity.

The World Bank Director of Operation, Othman Ahmad talked during the opening ceremony and praised the taken steps of the Syrian government to improve the investment environment and achieving development. Othman also referred to the international bank strategy all over the world which includes 183 states.

Following the opening ceremony, the symposium started its deliberations with an orientation regarding the investment environment and the available opportunities in Syria.
