Al-Watan: Saudi Arabia, Iraq resume telecommunications
Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Politics, 12/16/2002
Saudi Arabia on Saturday resumed its direct telecommunications with Iraq following a cessation which lasted for 11 years.
The executive chairman of the Saudi exports promotion center, Abdul Rahman al-Zamel, said in statements issued yesterday by the Saudi daily al-Watan that this measure will contribute to eliminating problems the Saudi exporters face in contacting their representatives and offices in Iraq, noting that the Saudi exporters were obliged to make their telephone contacts with Iraq through a third country.
Al-Zamel explained that resuming telecommunications with Iraq comes to meet the requests demanded by the Saudi exports promotion center several months ago to facilitate the work of exporters. He said that the Saudi government responded to us "to this request," in addition to other requests including the visit of the Saudi trade delegations and opening Jdedat Ar'ar border crossing between the two states.
