Syrian Foreign Ministry: Communique on UN 1450 resolution

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a Communique regarding the Security Council resolution 1450.

The Communique included that the Security Council has adopted the resolution 1450 regarding the recent bombings of Kenya while Syria voted against the US draft resolution due to the US insistence on imposing a formula which is far from the main goal of such resolutions and which is represented in the condemnation of these bombings.

The communique pointed out that Syria, as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and because of her feeling of the responsibility and the belief of keeping the goals of the UN charter, has tried to add some modifications to the US draft resolution in order to be in harmony with the aim of such resolutions notably condemning terrorism with all its forms and wherever it is found. Syria is interested in keeping the Council united and what proves this is her support of the two previous resolutions 1438 and 1440 adopted by the Security Council and during which the council condemned the tragic events of Bali and Moscow.

it said :Syria, which condemns without reservation the terrorist action which happened in Kenya, rejects selectivity and double standard policy and doesn't accept the distinction between victims of terrorist attacks because of sex, religion or ethnic bases. How can we sympathize with Israeli victims and do not sympathize with the daily victims in the occupied Palestinian territories because of the continuous Israeli daily terrorism and whose numbers are greater than those of the other side? How should not we sympathize with the UN international employees victims who have been assassinated by the Israeli forces during the last few days, the Communique wondered.

The Communique pointed out that the US draft resolution which has been adopted embodies unacceptable political dimensions that would reflect negatively on the whole situation in the Middle East and the occupied territories and opens more doors for Israel to exploit the international campaign against terrorism in such a ill manner, that is, to escalate her oppressive practices and state organized terrorism which it practices daily against the unarmed Palestinian people without any move from the US side to put an end this terrorism, but even it opposes any international resolutions in this regard.

Syria, which reiterates her condemnation of all means of terrorism including what has happened recently in Kenya and what is happening in the occupied Arab territories by the Israeli forces, rejects the exploitation of the Security Council and international bodies for passing resolutions that are not in harmony with the international law which considers justice, equality and preserving all member states interests and rights one of its basic foundations and existence justification, the Communique concluded.
