Hariri confers with Larsen on ME issues
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 12/13/2002

Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri yesterday discussed with UN special coordinator Terry Rod Larsen developments of conditions on the Lebanese borders with Israel in light of the Israeli military escalations and continued Israeli violations of the Lebanese sovereignty.

The meeting was attended by the special envoy of the UN secretary general to south Lebanon Stevan De Mistora.

Following the meeting Larsen stressed the need of solving the Arab- Israeli conflict according to UN Security Council resolutions no. 242 and 338, stressing his identical view point with that of the Lebanese government especially concerning the issue of water in southern Lebanon.

Larsen considered that the Paris II conference as representing a turning point in the Lebanese economy, noting its importance in maintaining stability in the region, in general.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Hizbullah party condemned the Canadian authorities banning of the party's activities inside its territories under the pretext that it practices terrorist activities.

In a statement issued yesterday, the party stressed that the Canadian decision came in response to the American and Israeli conditions in the framework of their campaigns "against Arabs and Muslims and countries which do not accept to be subjugated to the American will." The statement stressed that the party is a resistance movement of the Israeli occupation according to what is stated in divine religions and the UN resolutions and that the decision of the Canadian authorities will negatively affect its relations with the Arab and Islamic states. The statement added that the Canadian authorities know that Hizbullah party does not carry out any activity outside Lebanon and that Canadian citizens and the Arab and Islamic communities in Canada are sympathizing with Hizbullah and its resistance of the Israeli occupation.
