Iraq-UN, Politics, 12/13/2002
The UN yesterday announced that the Iraqi government approved for the first time the visit to be carried out by the Russian Yuli Foronitsof to Iraq. He is the UN coordinator for the prisoners and properties that have been missing since the invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
UN spokesman Fred Eckhard told journalists that the Iraqi ambassador at the UN Muhammad al-Douri informed Foronitsof in writing on Wednesday that the Iraqi foreign ministry will be ready to receive him.
He added that it is the first time in which the coordinator is invited to visit Baghdad, noting that "the date for such a visit has not fixed yet."
