Iraq, Politics, 12/10/2002
Well-informed sources at the Iraqi opposition said that the preparatory committee of the opposition conference which will be held on Saturday in London has reached the draft of the conference's final recommendations.
After the preparatory committee has called for accelerating the convening of conference for the opposition before the end of the current year, in remarks to nearby coming developments, the committee has called for not rushing to form a "provisional government in exile."
The sources said that the committee agreed to elect what is called "the consultation commission which will be in charge of coordinating among the opposition forces as well as coordinating and following up the relations between the opposition and countries concerned with the Iraqi issue." The sources explained that the London conference's final statement will call for concluding a common political address; rejection of the invasion and occupation of Iraq; identifying the meaning and extent of the international support for the opposition to change the regime in Iraq; stressing the democratic attitude of the policy of next Iraqi government; working for peace with the neighboring states; committing to all UN resolutions and helping in solving Iraq's problems and the financial and political consequences inherited from the regime of Saddam Hussein.
