Israel prepares for a military operation

The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Aam reported yesterday that western diplomatic sources expressed conviction that Israel is preparing for a military operation in the form of a large attack ( taking the form of muscles flexing) under the pretext of retaliating the Mombassa operation in Kenya.

The sources expected that this operation will take place at the time of the general elections expected on January 28th, 2003. The sources did not define the place where Israel will strike but said that the date of the operation will be before than the date of the Israeli elections, in order for the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to guarantee his success in the elections.

The sources indicated that the operation will be for multi purposes, especially to confirm that the Israeli hand will reach anyone ho attacks it, and that the Israeli objectives can not be attacked as happened in Mombassa without the occurrence of an Israeli reaction, and besides all, Sharon, who asked for preparing for this operation, wants to show Israel as if it is still distinguished through its foreign intelligence ( the Mossad ) as used to be the case in the past and that its the Mossad has not lost all qualifications which enabled it to launch successful operations in various parts of the world, and this included the assassination of several Palestinian leaders in Lebanon, or Tunisia or kidnapping certain figures."

The paper indicated that the only information available about the coming Israeli operation is that it will be equivalent in size to the bombarding the Iraqi nuclear reactor in June 1981 under the rule of the Israeli government of Menahim Begin.
