Iranian FM in Syria on regional issues

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received yesterday in Damascus Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharazi and the accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the situation in the region and the continuous developments concerning Iraq and the Israeli acts in Palestinian occupied lands.

Talks also dealt with the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the importance of consultation between them.

In an arrival statement to SANA correspondent Kharazi said that the aim of this visit is to exchange points of view concerning the main causes and the current events. He also commended the strong relations between Syria and Iran.

Syria's Foreign Minister, Farouk al-Shara also received met with Kharazi.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the prevailing regional and international situations and the work of the international inspectors committees in Iraq.

AL-Shara stressed the necessity of respecting the international resolutions and the UN charter which prohibit interference in the domestic affairs of the other states.

The two ministers asserted the necessity of the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions by all members of the UN Organization including Israel. The two sides also reviewed the deteriorated situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and means of strengthening them, particularly in this critical stage.

Later in the day, al-Shara received a telephone call from the Secretary General of the General Popular Committee of the African Unity in Libya, Ali Abdussalam Al-Toraiki. The call dealt with the latest developments in the region and with bilateral relations between Syria and Libya.
