Mozambique wants stronger ties with Morocco

President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique has voiced his country's desire to develop ties with Morocco.
The Mozambican President made the statement while receiving Moroccan ambassador to South Africa and Mozambique, Talal Ghofrani. Ghofrani handed Chissano his credentials as Moroccan ambassador to Mozambique, resident in South Africa.
President Chissano lauded the friendship and brotherhood ties binding Rabat and Maputo, and which date back to the era when Mozambique was struggling for independence.
The Mozambican head of state expressed his country's admiration for the economic and social development reached by Morocco.
The Moroccan ambassador also conferred with Mozambique's foreign minister, Ms. Frances Rodrigues on means to give a new impetus to Moroccan-Mozambican cooperation.
Rodrigues voiced hope to see Morocco contribute to the reconstruction and development process under way in Mozambique.
Rabat and Maputo are bound by several accords of cooperation particularly in the realms of agriculture and tourism. The two sides plan to hold the first session of their joint cooperation commission early next year in Morocco.
