Kuwait arrests four Iraqis entered its territorial waters
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 12/7/2002

The Kuwaiti navy has seized an Iraqi boat after it had entered its territorial waters on Thursday at dawn and arrested the four member team.

The Kuwaiti official news agency quoted the Kuwaiti defense minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah as saying that he ordered handing over the detained Iraqis to the ministry of the interior for investigation, in order to know their identities and take necessary measures against them.

The agency explained that the defense minister visited the arrested Iraqis in order to find out their conditions. He also inspected the seized boat.

This incident, however, comes just two days following an incident between two boats, one for the Kuwaiti coasts guard and an Iraqi boat to the north of the Gulf. Kuwait then announced that the Iraqi boat opened fire on the two boats of the coasts guard, while Iraq had deliberately denied such an attack.
