Jordanian opposition calls for government's resignation
Jordan, Politics, 12/7/2002
The Jordanian national forum of political opposition figures and parties called for the evacuation of the government and called on the Jordanian King Abdullah II to appoint a "good government" for national reconciliation instead of the government of Ali Abul Ragheb.
In parallel to that, the governor of Amman, Abdul Karim al-Malahema, issued a decision banning al-Eid (holiday) prayers on Thursday in the square of the vocational trade Union Center in order to preserve security and of fears of the eruption of demonstration.
According to a report by the London- based al-Quds al-Arabai, governor al-Malahimah informed the commission of the vocational trade unions not to license al-Eid prayers in the open- air square which adjoins the complex of the vocational trade union in Amman. He said that he is ready to provide support upon the selection of any open- air square in other areas.
The paper quoted trade unions sources saying that al- Malahimay recommended the trade unionists to choose other sites for prayers, considering holding prayers in the vocational trade unions quarters as a provocative step.
